The mental or physical impairment due to which the person is unable to perform their activities is known as disability. The disability can be caused by impairments or illness like deafness, anxiety disorders, cancer, blindness, diabetes etc. Due to disability, the disabled people are ignored in every field such as education, society and employment.
But the development of Disability Discrimination Act has provided various services for the disabled people and now they are treated equally in all the fields. The disabled people have to suffer a lot so treatment is very essential for them. Treatment plays an important role in the life of the disabled people as it helps them to recover quickly. There are number of treatments available for the disabled people and they are:-
Physical Therapy
Physical therapy is recommended by the doctor for the prevention of disability and physical rehabilitation following the impairment. The main function of this therapy is to help the disabled people so that they can regain diminished physical function which is lost due to disease or injury and also helps in relieving pain. There are various tests performed by the physical therapists to examine musculoskeletal, neuromuscular functions etc. After examined, the doctor use various physical agents to reduce the pain and by the use of therapeutic exercises to increase the endurance, strength and coordination.
Cranial Sacral Therapy
This therapy is a treatment which is based on the Cranial Osteopathy. This therapy restores the natural movement of the bones of the skull. This therapy passes the cerebrospinal fluid throughout the central nervous system. This therapy is provided by the bodyworkers and massage therapists to reduce the pain of the disabled people.
Speech Therapy
The disabled people are treated with various speech therapists. This treatment covers various things such as assessment of the individual and their environment, augmentative and alternative communication, introduction to learning disability etc. The therapists give the disabled people a theoretical background of the subject for discussion, giving them certain examples and practical suggestions for the assessment so that they can easily understand the techniques.
Occupational Therapy
These therapists are the health professionals which train the disabled people so that they can live their life independently. These therapists provide this therapy to the disabled people in different environments such as hospitals, schools, workplaces etc. The primary goal of this therapy is to maximize their skills by enhancing the well-being, personal productivity and quality of life. This treatment program consists of three stages such as consultation, evaluation and treatment.
Suit Therapy
This therapy is originated from Russia. This therapy was specially designed for the disabled people and they face various improper alignment and weak postural muscles. The main goal of this therapy is to achieve communication, psychological and behavioral goals.
So, the disabled people can undertake any one of these treatments to treat their disease or disability.
